His Mother

His mother wanted
The house
To be the social center of the neighborhood
In the psycho-analytic climate
Of the 1950s.

His father was
The main breadwinner
To ensure
This would come to pass
In the vanilla suburban neighborhood
Of the west end of Long Island.

The community knew this
About his upbringing, I mean
And the way his parents
Blessed him
In a world built for neuro-typicals
The world he also lived in.

His parents
Would eventually die off
Par for the course with life on 🌎
To leave him all alone, to fend
For himself
In this harsh world
Not just the times.

The community
Stepped up
And cared for him
Took him in
As one of their own
In a world
Where him or no one shall go hungry
They knew his pain.

And at the same time
It was helping them
While they were helping him
And in a world usually concerned with
Keeping up appearances

They cared. ☀💑🍴🍛✌
