Funniest Thing

 

Tried surfing  
in the younger days  
 
Bought a board  
the soap  
sunblock  
and strange suit  
Even the goggles  
with waterproof watch  
 
A guy with long hair and a decent tan  
took me to a rock  
they call it "Point"  
 
Tried his best  
to explain  
what to do  
 
I became an expert  
in wave somersaults;  
sand filled the suit  
The watch sailed off with the tide  
The board smashed  
my forehead
- twice  
Eyepieces  
on the goggles covered  
my ears  
Crawled  
to the shore  
on all fours
like a seal dragging
it's tail for
an afternoon sunbathing

 
Lay there  
for what felt like eternity;  
hearing  
giggles and comments
Searched a breath  
fathoming
if the heart was ticking  
 
Started to crawl home  
 
breathless  
 
Funniest thing really  
couldn't believe  
I had tried it
