If We Could Be
The light
beach sand
shadowed in the
dawn
Soft sea whispering
"I Love You's"
in the wash
behind it
A dead branch
from a tree
[no one
has seen]
Tattoed
in burn marks and
termite burrows
scattered aimlessly
surounded in
sea shells
on the shore
I'd hold her hand
She'd walk over it
concentrating
as if
it were
a balance beam
Then she'd giggle
as she
lost balance
falling
into my arms
Oh
If we could
just rewrite
the
beginning
The middle
would be public
The end a
passionate
embrace
written in the clouds
celebrated by the stars
sung in the white horse
of the Atlantic's
misty
ocean
breath
