BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Many things are esoteric & impossible for some to understand
Like traveling in the shoes in this land as an African American
Doesn't even matter how many of us that you have as your friends
You'll never be able to fully grasps what it's like living in our skins

It's Black History Month again and society's time to pretend
That they really give much of a damn about our contributions
They've given us only 28 days after centuries of enslavement
Yet they fail to understand why there's still so much resistance

History has been hidden and distorted much like fake news
So we only get to learn about the select few that they choose
And the narratives they provide us with is from their point of view
For many of our heroes are zeroed in on & painted as bad dudes

Our women too who were just as militant against injustices
Like Winnie Mandela, Assata Shakur and the Angela Davis'
So as much as I appreciate this great month founded by Carter G. Woodson
The battle still needs to be fought so more is taught to all of our children
