The Ring
The wedding ring,
symbol of love given,
whether a plain band
or encrusted with the
finest diamonds.
To be worn on the 3rd finger
of the left hand.
Not
between the nostrils.

Some seem to think it
implies "ownership"
instead of "life partner"
The friends words
a welcomed sight.

i reckon
the ring, with its circular shape
signifies the completion
of a life's circle and when
that happens, the two endpoints on a line
meet and combine
to make one endless loop!

Subjective write xD
And liked it greatly
As I do have such piercings
Moreover because I have the freedom of spirit to do so, not for public attention but self awareness of my ability to take any direction I choose, just because I can.

I have much respect for those who have the strength of character
to live life on their own terms, at their own speed, so long as they do not infringe on another's same right.
Too many seem to think it is meant as a tethering point.
Thank you, Rose, I believe our thoughts parallel.

Decisions in life, better made based on actions rather than words.
One can possess another's heart, but only for the length of time it is offered freely.
Kindred are our thoughts here.
Thank you, Sophie

this made me laugh at the end
not sure if that was your intent..
but i dig your point..
ain't nothin sacred anymore
let's just distort everything..

Nutrition for the mind, I feel, though sprinkled with a pinch of sugary metaphorical humor to help it go down easier.
And yes, the twisting of meaning, to fit one's perspective.
Your light on my page, shines bright.

Many times the signs are there, long before we accept their existence, which leads to our own detriment.

Thank You, Atomik.
Many of my pieces, are no more than a result of a short attention span, time constraints, and lack of vocabulary. but I do enjoy writing them. :-))

I don't think anyone's going to lead you around by the nose, Poe.
Too much of a free spirit, my friend.
Just beware, of the one who comes along with a grip further South. :-))))
Thanks, Poe, you rain smiles.

Given that it's a symbol, I suppose a ring could mean anything.
If the ring is explicitly one denoting marriage, I guess the meaning would depend upon the culture or Culture of the people involved. I know there was quite a period of time in many places where a woman having a ring on the left third finger may as well been in the nose. Some would argue the same for men today in certain places.

"I know there was quite a period of time in many places where a woman having a ring on the left third finger may as well been in the nose. Some would argue the same for men today in certain places"
I fully concur, and some, even today, still feel that way, hence my reason for writing this piece.
Since I reside in the US, a western, primarily Christian culture, the prevailing meaning of a ring on that finger, is to signify being married, and thus unavailable to another. A deeper meaning, such as that below, is also widely accepted by many.
[sic] "A circle, (ring), having no beginning or end and is therefore a symbol of infinity. It is endless, signifying the way love should be".
That I was raised and married in a traditional Christian manner, I may be bias in my perspective, though I no longer follow any
particular organized religion, preferring to live by the golden rule.
Thank you Dr. M, always enjoy seeing your pen here and these exchanges.

Yes, TRUE love knows where the ring belongs, and respects it's meaning, even when we stumble at times due to being human.
