Objects in the mirror
are closer than they appear,
but she is not an object.
She's a person.
Those are tears.
Objects do not weep.
People fully feel,
but both are used
and both may break
and both may never heal.
Object lessons
meant to raise up
ordinary things,
may blossom into lyrics
of a unique song to sing.
Tho, a song
that isn't sung
is lost.
A lesson
never learned
is naught.
A person
never loved
will want -
never feeling,
never healing,
only slowly disappearing
from the world
into thin air
until the moment
she's not there.
Have I compassion?
Do I care?
Do I recognize despair?
Will I come beside her,
share?
Hurting people everywhere
whose lives seem like
a thoroughfare
cracked and crumbled
under feet
of those who use them,
or abuse them,
disregard,
brush off,
refuse them.
Have we compassion?
Do we care?
Do we recognize despair?
Do we come beside and share -
share the pain,
ease the strain,
share umbrellas in the rain,
share our hope,
ease the wane?
Can we listen,
not chastise?
Share a meal,
give a ride?
Ease a burden,
see the person,
meet their eyes,
not turn away,
no dismissal,
not surmise,
simply love...
humanize?
