down by the river
take me to the river
where i can draw breath
enter its cool, calm waters
my soul fully undressed
gone are the trappings
the thorns of this Earth
that pierce my wayward flesh
washed in the blood
let from above
i sit on the river bank & cry
in my steps i've become remiss
i track them carefully
looking back to where i first fell
asking why?
when the way through
the deadly bramble
lies a path well worn
made by the divine
who walked this walk
so we don't travel blind
i trip
& stumble
live like i am cursed
fall down hurt
mortally wounded
that's when
i'm gently picked up
& carried to where it all began
in the easy flow
of those healing waters
i know i'm more,
than a mere mortal woman
take me to the river
where i first drew breath
i'm weary of soul
may i be refreshed
