Dance Along

To free a world from itself
both the wise and the strong
look to the trickster for some relief
with conscience void of rigid rules
a lack of shame is not evil
instead there is freedom braced
as the norm is cast aside
inviting others to do the same.

The wise are held in their chains
considered words surrounding the wrists
no lee-way for less than that
when the pen cuts like a knife
into this gap walks the fool
with the farce held to heart
now the mutterings have a charm
disarming sages with no defense.

Power asks for its due
what's extended may return
both for the best and for the worse
there's no space to drop the guard
distraction is the remedy
reminders of the simpler life
beyond the throne on which they sit
look to the jester to wear the crown.

In the thick tomes the pundits drown
while the strong man chokes on dust
they envy those who skip these trials
when the price is held from sight
it’s those tricksters, the pure frauds
exalting shame and shunting balm
who convey what lays beyond
tempting all to dance along.
