The Long Summer Night
I cannot choke it out
The impression that you’ve made
And I find it hard to express
Your pretty little footsteps
Pressed into the beach before me
Throughout those precious days of rest
I can’t even begin to sum you up
With your love and pain
Parting
And Imparted
Twisting together beneath the sky.
And I cannot digress
How those tumultuous thoughts
With their adorned thorns
Sought surrender
And how I drank them in
Strangling them up against me
Just to smile at their beauty
As they burn up inside beside me
Residing deep and to the left
And so you’ve got me all bewildered
That you can stand so strong and tall
And that you can stand still
Towering upon this rocky hillock
Amongst the sweeping wind swept chill
Here I hope
If only for a moment
That this cruel and desiccating wind recedes
Just long enough for me to gather you up
And peer deep into your dinosaurs
The impression that you’ve made
And I find it hard to express
Your pretty little footsteps
Pressed into the beach before me
Throughout those precious days of rest
I can’t even begin to sum you up
With your love and pain
Parting
And Imparted
Twisting together beneath the sky.
And I cannot digress
How those tumultuous thoughts
With their adorned thorns
Sought surrender
And how I drank them in
Strangling them up against me
Just to smile at their beauty
As they burn up inside beside me
Residing deep and to the left
And so you’ve got me all bewildered
That you can stand so strong and tall
And that you can stand still
Towering upon this rocky hillock
Amongst the sweeping wind swept chill
Here I hope
If only for a moment
That this cruel and desiccating wind recedes
Just long enough for me to gather you up
And peer deep into your dinosaurs
