Rough
We’d been friends,
Just friends,
For years.
No “benefits”,
Just friends,
Who dated other people,
And told each other,
All about it.
After,
Maybe,
The worse date,
I’d ever had,
I called her.
I talked,
She listened,
Offered kind,
Thoughts;
Suggestions;
Sympathy.
And,
Reminded me,
Of the disaster date,
She’d had last week.
Sometime,
After 3 AM,
We both yawned.
I said,
“Good night.”
She said the same.
We hung up.
A few minutes later,
I got a text from her.
And our relationship,
As just friends,
Changed.
“When you dream tonight,
Remember all of the chats we’ve had,
And,
Especially,
Remember,
That I like it,
Rough.”
It took me,
Hours,
To fall asleep.
Just friends,
For years.
No “benefits”,
Just friends,
Who dated other people,
And told each other,
All about it.
After,
