Demons of The Night

Are the demons
After dawn,
Really gone?

The end of night
Was but an illusion.
Falling for
The wraiths' tricks
yet again.

They've laid the traps.
Taken my friends,
Down to the bottom
Of pits of doom,
And torment and terror.

At this point in the horror,
Am I the last
of the living
left alive?
The only one of my crew,
Who has made it thus far,
This close to the end?

My friends weren't really extras,
meant for mass slaughter.
This was their story, too,
And they even had their own
sub-plots and side quests
to tackle, all together.
But they were all meant to fall,
Into darkness and despair,
Fed upon by evil
and demons of the night.

They made their sacrifice,
And are now one
with the enemy,
bound to feed upon souls,
and flesh of their brethren.

The darkness had come,
To allow these demons
to walk upon the Earth,
Coming by way
of Hell's Portal,
They have the power,
To manipulate the perception
of time and light.

I am alone.
They have taken my friends
With them, into the night.
And I am here to fight
Them on my own.

But I seek the true light,
For perhaps all this evil
Is all too much
for my training alone.
I'm not
a comic book superhero,
afterall.

I bust out of this Mansion
of undead soulsuckers,
Hanging from a balcony,
I know death
would be far better
than that fate.

Reaching out to claim me
as their meal, as their prize,
The dawn finally breaks,
And demons crumble
to ash, fire and dust,
before my very eyes.

Their eyes are always
on the prize,
Forgetting the fate
that awaits them in the light.
I cannot, shall not perish,
for I am the only one left.
They could only keep on going
In an effort to feed,
No matter their fate.

Those soulless creatures of the night,
Mindless undead minions.
Stupid Demons.
For you there was no way out,
Except Death and Destruction

I had too much to live for.
I found my way out,
Into the broad light of day

I found my way out,
And then I ran on.
