Lambs To The Slaughter
Just another day in the surreal
watchin yet another thrill kill
rollin' along on the newsreel
while talkin' heads spill spiel
'bout how it doesn't seem real
all wonderin' "what's his deal"
stickin' strangers with a life uphill
leavin' 'em dippin' in their own till
payin' debts that're society's bill
America again back on it's heels
and you gotta wonder, do we really feel?
or is it all just piggy squeal?
Perhaps it should be our national seal!
No one round we agree to blame
no one willin' to face the shame
pointin' fingers and callin' names
keep on keepin' on, playin' the game
while politicians avoid the flames
all settlin' for more of the same
showin' we're the one's who're lame
and all the while another takes aim.
And all that's agreed, "the whole fuckin' thing's insane"
It's time to determine how to fight
what's now become a bloody blight
or is this now some sort of new rite?
images that torment into the night
and then again in the mornin' light
is it guns or people, which answers right?
which do we choose to lock up tight?
or do we just keep on avoidin' the sight?
While another soul's forced to take an earlier flight.
The slaughter now comes to the lambs
and we're askin' at who's hands
at who's feet the blame should land
who's at fault for removin' the bland
I think it's all of us, from where I stand.
and it's about time we realize it......."Goddamn"!
So, if you really want to solve it, start by sayin' "I AM"
Submitted for consideration in the "Yet Another Mass Shooting" comp.

Can't even form a reply to that, other than to agree.

I read a poem yesterday by PoeticInjustice "Best Interests".
It does well to identify much of the problem we face with guns being so prolific in our country. You may wish to read it also.
Thank You for the visit, kind comment, and RL, EIS. All are much appreciated.

Blame
26th Nov 2017 2:22pm
I almost want to say that everyone taking blame alleviatesalleviate the responsibility from those who allow such pain. Of course, the solution isn't plain for I doubt we all are so inane. Regardless, I see your claim and your pain so I'll applaud what you proclaim.

That you took the time to construct such a well penned comment both humbles me and yet feeds my ego in regards to the poem having the effect I was hoping for.
I feel your ability to articulate thought could have been put to good use in an entry to this comp. as well and I would enjoy seeing one if you have the time to do so. (It's not to late, if you hurry.)
Thank You for the visit and comment. It is well received and RESPECTED!

You got my gears turning and ask for honest critique that's all it takes.
I did not have the time. Unfortunately, there may be a similar compecompetition in the coming weeks. I can pen a full response poem later if you'd like.

Blame lies all around.
Well written.

Yes, the blame rests with us all. If we are the ones who elect our officials, it is incumbent that we vote in or out those who act on our will and that we let them know what that is. Too many people doing nothing, all of us included.
Thank you for the visit and comment. It's appreciated sophie.

Really fantastic expression of things that are currently wrong in the world. I wish I could comment more but as much as I feel your frustration I don’t live in a society with guns, so I can only comment from the outside.
I feel empathy for you, and really enjoyed reading and feeling your words in this.

Knowing your country has stringent laws regarding the ownership of guns thus reducing the body count, it, like ours, still suffers from the same reasons for the carnage, and even more when one factors in the geography, being so close to the unrest going on in Europe and the adjacent countries.
I wish you and everyone there better days to come. If only all people of the world felt the need for change enough to actually take action which facilitates that change. What a wonderful present that would be to give ourselves.
Thank you for visit and comment.

You are right, it doesn’t matter where in the world we are, it starts and the top and it trickles down our society poisoning everything in its path.

That's great, now if each of us can light another 267 fires under the asses' asses in Washington, maybe something can get done about it.
But, first we'll need to pry their lips off the ass of gun manufacturers.
I've yet to see an animal that required an assault rifle to take down.
Thanks for the read and uplifting comment.

I feel this pain so acutely. I am enthralled by your solution in that it lies in each of us. It reminds me of Tao Te Ching - Chapter 54:
"Cultivate virtue in yourself,
And it will be true.
Cultivate virtue in the family,
And it will be overflowing.
Cultivate virtue in the town,
And it will be lasting.
Cultivate virtue in the country,
And it will be abundant.
Cultivate virtue in the world,
And it will be universal.
Therefore:
See others as yourself.
See families as your family.
See towns as your town.
See countries as your country.
See worlds as your world.
How do I know that the world is such?
By this."

I have not read deeply into Taosim. What I have read I have found much parallelism with my own beliefs. That you quoted #54 here, led me to read it along with an interpretation and explanation written by Stefan Stenudd. I found the similarities fascinating to say the least and I will be reading much more in the future due in no small part of your time and comment here.
As I have said to others here on DU during the short time I have been here, "Read and interact with others as often as possible, for one never knows when or from where enlightenment will come."
Thank You SO MUCH for pointing me in a direction I am sure will be worth exploring.

I am glad you are exploring this philosophy. It has brought me much peace, clarity, and serenity. A good explanatory piece for Taoism is a book called "The Tao of Pooh." It's a fun read...or listen. I often use it to lull me to sleep. That we help one another is truly the beauty of this site.

I strongly agree with your last sentence in regard to this site. I have found many times what someone writes, rather I comment or not, leads me to thinking from a different perspective.
As to the book, I will certainly look into it as well.
Thanks for the information.
