Hummingbird
Your hands embraced fire
As life left them.
I wish I had left lavender
On your pillow
As you'd done for me
Before the labyrinth.
Before the aviary
Where the doves
Tied your neurons
Into perfect little bows.
Before they stole
Your ability to pray.
How can you be gone
When you were
Just dancing?
As life left them.
I wish I had left lavender
On your pillow
As you'd done for me
Before the labyrinth.
Before the aviary
Where the doves
Tied your neurons
Into perfect little bows.
Before they stole
Your ability to pray.
How can you be gone
When you were
Just dancing?
