Tattoos Of Life.
*trigger warning: this poem does relate to self harm.
Scars are the Tattoos of life
We wear them for all to see
As they bare the all telling stories of our lives
Discoloration twines and winds across our skin, dancing whispers of our faults and sins
So, let them stare as they gawk and peer
They'll never understand what's within,
What's buried deep beneath the marks spread so thin
They see these blemishes and second guess our incisions
Let them jump to their conclusions and accusations
Let their eyes linger as their judgment becomes clear
They will never understand the pain some people just can't share, the deep hungering of desperation that some can’t bare
The pain we have shackled up and suppressed that one day clawed it’s way up and ripped it’s way through leaving its treacherous mangled path on us in the form of jagged and rigid distort
Vivid crimson kissed welts, soft petal smudges, dark tawny splotches
Our pain has branded us but we will not be shamed
We will embrace our scorched marks.
This is an old poem I decided to edit and rewrite. It’s not a perosnal poem.
