A Cat of Many Names

The naming of cats is a challenging task
Each cat varies in size, color, demeanor, and poise
But in their own dominion, they will confidently bask
Forever awaiting a platter

From a petite, teal bag I draw aptly
A Temptations treat in my hand
Aimed at the cat who is orange and tabby
Because he decrees

He and I both may think he has one Title
But we fail to agree
A particular Name is not official
None of which one can justify

First of all, there’s the everyday Nickname
Such as Demon, Little Monster, or “Hey, Quit That”
Or the Name on the collar, which is not the same
Such as sweet Whiskers, Sir Gryffyn III, or Paul

Yes, a cat must have numerous Names.
A Name for every occasion
But one of his own creation is another of little fame
One humans will never uncover

*Yes, I did read T.S. Elliot’s “The Naming of Cats.” This is what I thought of after. Yes it is almost midnight, and it was fun to write no matter the final product.
