The Sun is Out and So am I
Elvis costello
And the court house where I recieved my first ticket
My father and I
The scent of coffee lined with telephone wires;
I imagined I was driving
And I imagined you were there too for a little while
Just to see what you might say
If anything;
I saw a crumbling house Today
in the middle of a grassy field
I thought how lovely it might be
To live in a crumbling house
In the middle of a grassy field
I'd fix it up
And make it so quaint
Even my mother
Would feel at peace there
And so would I
And so would you
And all of this
These nights when I've forgotten it's okay to cry
Will dissipate into nothingness
I will throw out my cell phone
And become like spring nights again
Crickets and bullfrogs
Singing
As I look up at the moon
Yes
That might be nice
Yes
That might be right
And the court house where I recieved my first ticket
My father and I
The scent of coffee lined with telephone wires;
I imagined I was driving
And I imagined you were there too for a little while
Just to see what you might say
If anything;
I saw a crumbling house Today
in the middle of a grassy field
I thought how lovely it might be
To live in a crumbling house
In the middle of a grassy field
I'd fix it up
And make it so quaint
Even my mother
Would feel at peace there
And so would I
And so would you
And all of this
These nights when I've forgotten it's okay to cry
Will dissipate into nothingness
I will throw out my cell phone
And become like spring nights again
Crickets and bullfrogs
Singing
As I look up at the moon
Yes
That might be nice
Yes
That might be right
