What are you afraid of?
Love.
Overused words bleed into my veins
I put to much faith into...
Love.
I put my heart into your hands
And you tore me apart
You took my own weakness
and made yourself feel powerful
I'm tired of being lonely
But I'm to afraid to start over
Everyone asks me
WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?!
Love.
I'm afraid of caring so much I burst
I'm afraid of trying...
I can't escape this curse.
Love.
The word, "Etsipena," is Basque for desperation. I used this because I believe that when it comes to love everyone is desperate in some way. For example, most people are desperate to be loved. Some are desperate to find someone worth loving. It can go many ways which is why I think the title blends with the straight-forward tone of this poem. It's very to the point, but reading the title gives it more dimension.

To seek love is to be human.
If you believe in yourself, then others, those worth consideration, will also believe in you and love will happen without desperation.

Very nicely expressed.
Try experimenting with your meter and using a blend of metaphor and simile to create a bit of mystery that will allow readers to interpret your poetry through their own imagination.
I personally use thesaurus.com and rhymster.com to find new and interesting words I hadn't thought of.
There are degrees of desperation. I was a desperate teenager who wanted everything "right now" like it might not be there in a year or two. Now I'm desperate because I might not be here in a year or two... lol, It's all a matter of perspective.
Live and love in the moment and then write poetry.
You'll make the world happy with your words and in 40 years you'll have a lot of nice memories...
But don't just write about love, let your feelings be expressed on whatever may inspire you. A muse needs a well balanced diet of ideas and emotions to blossom within you...
You've got a nice start going. I didn't write my first poem outside English class until I was 17.
Keep writing and expressing!

a masterful work- I come from a Basque background- I am familiar with the meaning...
I am also familiar with its content, for indeed, the weeds that grow around LOVE, needs constant gardening..
a pratfall along the path, for some, sours them to new experiences -
to me love is empty without actions- growing flowers in the desert
finding comfort in understanding. caring, cultivating the mechanism of listening -sharing
beautifully stated here..cheers
