A Sequoia in Yosemite

Your trunk is firm like Atlas
holding up the world against the sky.
Branched wings
spread across the valley floor.
Roots of tangled phalanges
penetrate the earth.
Your shadow belies you.
Soft and motherly.
Shading grass from August heat.
In the valley
the land completes you.
