Not Perfect
There is nothing that is perfect in this world
And we are no exception. There is still hope
Lingering in the background. The words, curled
Up around my tongue. I love you. If this rope
Slips from our grasp this time around then I am
Afraid we are going to lose each other for good
And nothing will ever be the same. I want to slam
My fist into the wall, but the splintering wood
And plaster will do nothing to ease the fuming
Anger or frustration on the inside. We took a lot
Of work to make sure our flowers were blooming
Through the cracks on the sidewalk. You clot
My system because the underlying truth is that
I still want you, even through all of the pain,
Scars, words and what other people throw at
Us every day. I cannot let any of it ruin or stain
Something that may not feel right to them, but
For this and for us it does. It felt safe and padded.
You were there for me through every low, rut
And times when I doubted myself. You added
Value to my life that is irreplaceable and
Indescribable. We both have flaws and there
Is no shame in that. With a heart and hand
To hold, there is no one else I would rather bare
My soul to. For now we have to put things on
Hold not because that is what I want, but because
I want to see if this would be dead and gone
Until we meet better people. There is no pause
When things are still moving ahead, but if we are
Still keeping these memories close while hoping
To come back to them when time and every star
Aligns then we do not have to worry about groping
Onto nothing. Only then we will be something
Something perfect and amazing; a finger with a ring.
And we are no exception. There is still hope
Lingering in the background. The words, curled
Up around my tongue. I love you. If this rope
Slips from our grasp this time around then I am
Afraid we are going to lose each other for good
And nothing will ever be the same. I want to slam
