WHAT MYSTERIES LAY BENEATH EACH SCAB (8-17-17, 1:07am, Cathedral City ('Cove'), California)
pick not at scabs
not quite yet done
with their silent healing lot
for its hard to tell
most oft
just where theyre at
in their given task
until theyre fully done
for underneath
their protective sheath
new skin may be or not
and if it be
the latter
the blood it weeps
when picked beneath
may clot or not
yet even if it does
youll only set your healing back
another day or two
at most
unless of course
you pick at it again
unconsciously
or with intent
still either way
nonetheless
the lesson
whether learned or not
clearly best
both heard and heeded
is not to pick at it at all
though that itself alone
is easier said than done
more frequently than not
as evidenced by this paper here
whose thin skin i write upon
ive now scratched up a lot
with pointed pen in hand
into this long
dry inky scab
of freely released
fresh ink s flow
into this
quietly surfaced
loosely structured
freshly congealed
newy manifested
poem
which unless
its left alone
and never read
unscratched
by mining eyes
unpicked
by prying
minds
just like with any
wound of flesh
it too may likewise
never fully
heal
as well
no matter
however many
times i might
go back
to re read it
then impulsively
re edit revise
or change it
if i can
in hopes
of
making it
better
