Stone pillars shooting lights watch over my city
Stone pillars shooting lights watch over my city
now as shooting stars pass by in the blink of an eye,
casting endless dreams and visions of grandeur.
south gay street carries me back to my childhood
to friends now gone and thoughts revisited.
the sandpit in the alley is all covered up with concrete,
the tree house built has rotted away.
a sewer we made into a living room,
the fistfight with bricks about games meant we could not stay.
the dead end alley that transformed into a jungle jail,
Irene street fire took my uncles house that day.
bicycle rides up the street to Spanish trace,
sky’s over south Knoxville will always be grey.
now as shooting stars pass by in the blink of an eye,
casting endless dreams and visions of grandeur.
south gay street carries me back to my childhood
to friends now gone and thoughts revisited.
the sandpit in the alley is all covered up with concrete,
the tree house built has rotted away.
a sewer we made into a living room,
the fistfight with bricks about games meant we could not stay.
the dead end alley that transformed into a jungle jail,
Irene street fire took my uncles house that day.
bicycle rides up the street to Spanish trace,
sky’s over south Knoxville will always be grey.
