Before the First Step

This was a smooth read, a shot of morning spirits. However,

"as the rest chemical preservatives"

I kept stumbling on that line . . .

Thank you! I'm struggling with the line, as well... What I wanted was to underline opposition to the absolute distinction between nature-made and man made that permeate many theories of the natural. I'm sure, I'll keep struggling with it.

This reminds me of an Australian murder cannibalism case where the wife, who was abusive as all hell, killed her estranged husband during sex then cooked his remains and served them to his children. It just called up that memory for me. She worked in a slaughter house since she was 15 so the animal bones line may be what made the link.

I probably could have written it for her, or, even better, could have married her...

Whew!, this was hitting Takis!  ..as women, we stumble
so many times within our nature of trial and error when  
learning

Sure as humans we all do, but.. but. .but.. we have a tendency to drive ourselves insane, sometimes
..many times before we get it right, the glowing
inner shell suddenly alights and there is nothing  
no one can do to stop us then.. especially when
going for what we want and moreso need..

Your characters remind me of something out of a Tom Waits song. Love it. Dark beauty.
