Sunday Morning In New Orleans
I woke up to the sound of the riverboat
the slow melodic tempo of the engines
I had to go out and watch the passengers board
I put on my shorts and a tank top
grabbed my coffee and walked across the street
I sat down on the bench and lost myself
The Mississippi River just flowing along
the passengers boarding the riverboat
smiling and excited to start their adventure,
me, no shoes, ripped and too short for my age shorts,
my hair flying everywhere,\
I felt free-
I felt like the river looked and I felt like
those passengers looked and I felt like the engines sounded,
free-I could do anything I wanted,
I could walk the streets barefoot and no one would even care
or give me a second look and wonder why I was barefoot
on a Sunday Morning in New Orleans
I had travelled so far to get to this place in my life
I was single, my kids were grown and moved out,
I had a job that paid the bills, no one and no thing
to rush back home for- Wow- what a moment
This is the best place to be when you can't decide where
you want to be next-
Maybe I'll stay another day- and see what happens
the slow melodic tempo of the engines
