Silence
You mistook my ambiguity for certainty.
I mistook your certainty for fear.
And in our disagreements, love was the cud
While pain was the meal.
In my silence, I sought balance,
Friendship and understanding
In your silence, I sought tenderness,
Companionship and inspiration
If the silence is sustained
Noise from other areas of life will grow
And the fear that your voice will be faint
And your vision dim
And your touch strange
Will be inevitable
I mistook your certainty for fear.
And in our disagreements, love was the cud
While pain was the meal.
In my silence, I sought balance,
Friendship and understanding
In your silence, I sought tenderness,
Companionship and inspiration
If the silence is sustained
Noise from other areas of life will grow
And the fear that your voice will be faint
And your vision dim
And your touch strange
Will be inevitable
