Never knew I loved you

Who is that so cute?
So hot
Is that little you?
Your brother's friend, never yours
Little sister not so little any more
A lifetime ago you were no one, now you burn in my soul
You've built a life and had your kids
The little one who was always there, but beneath notice
Now you fill my mind
Your image haunts the quiet places I go alone
Teasing me to join you
To sit with you
To hold your hand
To lay with you
To love you
Do you even remember me now, how could I have not loved you then?
But I was young, full of myself, too full to make room for little things like you
But the years have left me hollow, the room is there
The ache
The emptiness
The seconds pass and your image burns itself into the abandoned places that have grown in me
Now I know what I couldn't see then

Ohhh, felt. How time matures our minds and vision, oftentimes too late, or maybe it's for the best... This is a lovely write.

This was an interesting one. Was on a friend of mine’s Facebook page and low and behold a picture of his little sister popped up. She was in her early teens the last time I had seen her, too young to catch my attention back then. The change was so amazing, it prompted this poem.
