Don't Read This

If I leave this note for you to find
Pretend you've gone temporarily blind
Move along, there's nothing here to see
There are no feelings left inside of me
To be expressed or remembered today
I can't even recall how it felt to feel that way
So if you see me out walking on the street
I'm not looking for anything but the feeling of my feet
That used to love taking long walks with you
But love is some forgotten thing that we used to do
Anyway, I let go of that when I let go of us
And I shouldn't have to try this hard not to make a fuss
So when you see a folded paper beneath your apple tree
Ignore it, don't pick it up, don't read this fools empty poetry
I don't feel a thing that I can write into lost and silent verse
For being alone means there's no one here to undo your curse
There are no sins in silence that a page of words can confess
Because a hollow heart will only turn love into something meaningless
So even if I could feel what is surely a long lost memory
It hides beneath the darkest shadow of what used to be
Move along now, quickly, there's nothing here to see
Don't read this empty page of a fool's abandoned poetry
