Going Green
I hope I have learned my lesson
Learned it deeply
To my core
That I can go green.
I am not talking about eating leafy vegetables
Or choosing Non-GMO over GMO
It is not about recycling or using less plastic
Or paper over styrofoam
I challenge myself to come out from this red room of isolation
That heats my body's temperature from the inside out
While waiting for my judge to convict me of hedonism
Sacrifice. Discipline.
That is what my Jiminy Crickett keeps reminding me.
And I think, "But there are books to be had! Movies! Drinks! Fun!"
I am usually responded with a "They will be there."
But I never believe. I satiate my urges now.
With a slight moment of buyer's guilt, I am content to have my
New object of desire.
Until the red glare steps from the shadows once more.
It grows stronger by the day.
I want to destroy this red omniscience
Sacrifice. Discipline.
That is the only means of projecting my inner Green strength
It seems to be the only benevolence against it.
Green shall overcome Red.
I hope today is that first day of growing that radiant energy.
