The Kiss

The Kiss
 Through the darkness and rain
She strained
To find a place to put him down
All she could hear was the sound
Of her heart pounding
The surrounding rain
seemed to mimic her tears
over fears, of what she was about to do
See, she knew it was wrong
But she wasn’t strong enough
to do what was right
it was such a cold night
for such a cold act
but the cold fact
was that this is what was best for her
The rest, for sure, would fall in place
At least that’s what she thought
As she fought, inner feelings that screamed
“HOLD HIM! HOLD HIM!”
She told him nine months ago that
She wasn’t sure. She wanted to stay pure,
But he didn’t listen
And when her period went missing
So did he
So she…
Hid in her room, consumed
By the dread
Of what lied ahead
If dad found out, she would have been dead
But she hid it so well that no one could tell,
Baggy shirts for belly swell
It was hell
But it was nothing
Compared to the war waging within her tonight
“This is what is right.” She told herself again and again
But she was slowly giving in
To those motherly notions
As oceans
flowed through her eyes
Her secret son’s cries, calling
She was falling apart
With trembling hands and a fluttering heart,
She brought her child high on her chest
And caressed
his soft skin
Either way she couldn’t win
She looked to the sky and screamed “WHY!”
She saw a trash can out of the corner of her eye,
Then wept and kissed...
her son goodbye
