Fourth of July 2017
Fourth of July 2017
although our grand country
is beset with problems
many of our own making
I can look at the Statue of Liberty
and chills traverse my spine
although we have people
many of them hooded
looking for ways to take us down
when I see a man or woman
dressed in military uniforms
I feel a glad within my heart
on the TV politicians rant and rave
sickening to the core
but it is their right to do so
freedom of speech don’t ya know
this is a short poem
but couldn’t let this day go by
without honoring it
however minute
no matter what things plague us
we are still strong
Patriotism is still alive and well
in the hearts of true Americans
we may falter
but we will never fall
I salute this day
and feel a lump within my throat
