Sparing Souls

He found no solace in her company
Only dreadful moments of feigning interest
Through no fault of her own she bored him
She couldn’t strike the flint dampened from the passing storm
His tinder soaked with fallen rain, there will be no fire on this day
The callous ways of a hardened soul are not intentionally cruel
Though intent does not soften the blow
She can only extend her hand for so long
Before it succumbs to gravity
As she stares with tearful eyes
To see him disappear into the mist
She is but a whisper to him now
Another voice fighting for its place in the mind
Onward he trudges through the all too familiar darkness
Fearful that his fouled heart will lure another one into the deep
He cannot drown another soul, just so his can have some company
Numb to his crimes
Only on the outside
Screaming on the in
