Red stains  

Trickling vermilion streaks
bleed on virgin snow

Red Cardinal flits branches
seeking crimson Dogwood fruit

hunter tracks dying buck
birds whistle red-flag warning

sun dips in darkness veil
ice reflecting moon's glow

deer's stilted legs falter
falling in bloodshot tears

forest frozen silent...

clacking of blade on bone
flushes nesting Cardinal
hunter's carving antler trophy

he ends by wiping
death soaked hands

leaving forest stained Red
