Driving Me to Drink
Driving Me to Drink
By Alexzenia Davis
You’re driving me to drink
I’m no longer in sync with these people
Making me think too damn hard
About me, myself, and
I…
Now question everything I already know about me
Yet I act like I misplaced a contact
And retract and backtrack and retrace every step
Soul searching one more again as if it wasn’t staring me in the face
As I drift, and drift, and…
You’re driving me to drink
Cause I don’t feel the link to these people
So pass me some more of that rum as you consistently come
Tormenting my eardrums with drum solos that I just have to shake my ass to
And dance to, and strip to, and bend over like a bitch to
Cause that’s now the norm
That I supposedly gotta stick to
And if I say I have an issue
Then there ain’t a side for me to pick
So you, you, YOU’RE driving me to drink
Cause you’re messing with my head
My happy nappy dreads
And my brown toned legs
You’re making me forget what I said, what I’m about, where I’m going
Going too fast and I begin to start slowing…
Damn, damn, man
You’re driving me to drink
To speak the F U SEE-King truth
Looking for validity amongst the obscenities
You’re asking me to self destruct and erupt
I can no longer be a catalyst for change
Because ignoranceis obstructing the brain waves that were constructing proof
And deducting lies that would have been able to supply
Many answers to many questions of ‘Why?’
But not allowed…
I’m being driven
You’re driving me to drink
But I lost touch as I grew up
And began to value the spoken word over the absurd
Profane, untamed, mentally abusive, sexually exclusive
Not all inclusive
Hypocrisy
So I’m drinking… drinking… drinking… drinking…
