What smells like home
Essence of Nanny's home
The scent of vanilla, fluffy blankets and pillows
Books and fields of grass
Things from years ago
But my memories still last
And where I grew up
Even more books
Cats, dogs
An excellent meal
The scent of the rain
Through leaks in our roof
It's still the same
The scent of home
I can't quite trace
I've smelled it before
But I couldn't name the time or place
The antique store
With china and wooden furniture
The lovely gardens
With flowers of lovely hue
Is it the smell of the rain?
Or of an ocean
Wind passing through
But when I'm lonely
When I was sad
I hid it like an actress on cue
But that went away
Maybe for a moment
I was no longer blue
I was dancing
That was home
When we were dancing
And I had the scent of you
The scent of vanilla, fluffy blankets and pillows
Books and fields of grass
Things from years ago
But my memories still last
And where I grew up
Even more books
Cats, dogs
An excellent meal
The scent of the rain
Through leaks in our roof
It's still the same
The scent of home
I can't quite trace
I've smelled it before
But I couldn't name the time or place
The antique store
With china and wooden furniture
The lovely gardens
With flowers of lovely hue
Is it the smell of the rain?
Or of an ocean
Wind passing through
But when I'm lonely
When I was sad
I hid it like an actress on cue
But that went away
Maybe for a moment
I was no longer blue
I was dancing
That was home
When we were dancing
And I had the scent of you
