Second Choice
I was always the second choice to you.
For once I knew I was completely through
With you because you treated me like dirt
And like a backup plan. I knew that the hurt
Was never worth it. Every fight and decision
To put you first was not worth the hard collision
I could see coming. You were that storm
Just waiting to happen. You kept me warm
Those nights, but you kept breaking
Promises. You never thought to be staking
Your claim on me because we knew deep down
That you never cared. You just watched me drown
In tears and did nothing to save me. I could no
Longer handle being a part of your sideshow
While handling your demons and shadows.
You were only interested taking off my clothes
While we skipped out on all of your issues of trust
And insecurity. Darling, what we had was lust
And never the real thing. I am sorry for not ending
Things sooner because I was always spending
Way too much effort and energy on someone
Who was going nowhere. Neither one of us won.
For once I knew I was completely through
With you because you treated me like dirt
And like a backup plan. I knew that the hurt
Was never worth it. Every fight and decision
To put you first was not worth the hard collision
I could see coming. You were that storm
Just waiting to happen. You kept me warm
Those nights, but you kept breaking
Promises. You never thought to be staking
Your claim on me because we knew deep down
That you never cared. You just watched me drown
In tears and did nothing to save me. I could no

While we skipped out on all of your issues of trust
And insecurity. Darling, what we had was lust
And never the real thing. I am sorry for not ending
