Free Your Memory
17 months,
12 days,
One and a half hours,
She hoards the last
memories of him
inside a small box
of remembrances
Hoping if she closes
it tight, they'll remain
tethered dreams
Some days the thoughts
of him almost swallow
her whole,
she finds herself
desperately trying to
climb out
If only there was a
button to press
that could free her memory,
from the pain
of so much loss,
She knows deep down,
no matter the hurt,
that would
mean erasing all the good
parts too

Excellent ending. People forget that part...erasing the good too.
When the good outweighs the pain you will be healed of the loss, although it shall always remain with you. Youve come so far since I first read you.
[Using 'that' twice in S6 L3 trips the reader a bit. You only need one.]

That's a hard balance. I've been a little over 6 years and the pain still hits hard at times.

Thank you Dave for the read and thoughtful comments ... I think it is a really personal experience ... but also helps to know we are not alone struggling with the power of it ...

Oh my, this poem hit home!
At one point I had difficulties breathing, your words resonate deeply with me...
"Some days the thoughts
of him almost swallow
her whole" > I know this feeling all to well...

This is quite a conundrum. I have read over and over again an awesome book called "The Untethered Soul." The author speaks of samskaras, memories both good and bad that linger too long in our conscience and that we need to allow to pass through so we can be more fully present. Needless to ssy, more easily said than done. Thank you for the poignant ponder. Brava!

Thank you so much Gahddess for the read and thoughtful comments ... and for sharing .. this is a book I am not familiar with .. but will look into finding ... there is no right or wrong way to grieve... it just is ... the most important thing I've learned is to really listen to what my heart and soul needs.. ox

The right moment to arrive here again since your poem is one of the most beautiful and sad poems I've ever read. It goes straight to the heart and touches deeply. One day - and I promise you that it will become true - you will be able to heal though still remembering the good things.
