Love Upon the Water

For David

I knew
when the cough
didn’t assuage
and five hours sleep
became nine

When a fatigued pump
failed to divert veinous rivers
from bronchial deltas

When wildebeests
of stampeding corpuscles
crushed the narrow passage
of chambered atrium

When the bright pillar appeared
and the temperature dropped

I knew he hadn't been lost
at sea to a category five
buffeting Life's face

But, found by Love upon the water
calming the surge with Grace
outstretched hand beckoning

Welcome back home, my good
and faithful servant. Well done.
