I built a life
When I was just a little boy
I thought the world was mine,
So filled with thrills and treasures
Out there for me to find.
I searched my whole backyard
And the woods behind my home,
My wandering mind could only find
How much more I had grown.
I never traveled distant lands
Or crossed the many seas,
I never scaled the mountaintops
Or felt a desert breeze.
I did grow older in my house
And stayed in my hometown,
I built a life with my two hands
With two feet on the ground.
I thought the world was mine,
So filled with thrills and treasures
Out there for me to find.
I searched my whole backyard
And the woods behind my home,
My wandering mind could only find
How much more I had grown.
I never traveled distant lands
Or crossed the many seas,
I never scaled the mountaintops
Or felt a desert breeze.
I did grow older in my house
And stayed in my hometown,
I built a life with my two hands
With two feet on the ground.
