If I was...
If I was a gifted writer
But was never published,
Would people think I was brighter
Or my work was rubbish?
If I was a brilliant painter
With no masterpiece,
Could I say I mastered art
Or should my painting cease?
If I was an architect
Who built a Hall of Fame,
Would it make me famous
If it didn't bear my name?
If I was the President
But never was elected,
If I ran the country well
Would I still be rejected?
If I was no scientist
But found a cure for cancer,
Would people dare to question me
If I held all the answers?
If I could just be myself
And feel good in my skin,
I'd not care what someone else
Would think of me again.
