Image for the poem Lay waste my love

Lay waste my love

Dreamscapes and  moonlight capture our loneliness
beneath the sigh of wanton heartbeats. Carried on an
effervescent breeze, I hear your voice, yet here we are
with empty hands and laden hearts.

Time and fate wage battle for dominance in a place
where never a victory is won; you and I are the orphans of war.
Like tributaries of ancient flowing rivers banned timelessly
below earth's grace, our paths cross and tears of sorrow
saturate the ground, lost to swift currents.

Torn is a man wading through reflecting pools,
his eyes rich and flecked with gold, his soul speaks to me
of passion's burden. I stand in long, fading shadows and see
beneath prisms of raindrops as my hands
trace the scars of his past.

He waits for me on faraway plains that pehaps I'll
never reach, yet I ache to feel them brush the soles
of my weary feet. We are the elements in a poem
corrupt of sorrow, and separation
is the metaphor.

Only love could be so cruel.

We are the fallow and love flourishes in the ravages of 'us.'
