Daughter's Loss
Watching her choke
clutching her frail hand
her eyes screamed
unable to stand
grimace upon her face
as she could not breathe
from this aching moment
I find no reprieve
Loss and tragedy
my mind associates
grief stricken flashes
my soul it implicates
feeling barren
overwrought by pain
lingering in my body
feeling disdain
Her courage I remember
it lures me to a place
memory of her existence
mourning will not erase
thankful for who she was
regret not what is lost
holding on to her love
her honour has no cost

Thank you. I think you have to find a way to get it out...this works for me. I truly appreciate your response! There is an Author - Elizabeth Kubler-Ross who wrote On Death and Dying...she wrote "The reality is that you will grieve forever, you will never get over the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same. Nor should you want to." I find comfort in that.

Thank you...that is exactly it...I try to work most things out by writing. It really can be cathartic.

I can see why you would attribute a catharsis to this. I am sorry for your loss, Mel. This verse is but one legacy that's immortalized her existence.

My father passed of an opiate overdose in 2019. To this day, finding courage to write about him or the day it happened has evaded me. Nothing seems to fit the grief. Thank you for sharing your courage and love. This is such a moving piece, and the range of emotions from fear and despair are palpable.
