Dark Hallow Sisters
Well they knew there was nothing left for them in that old dusty coal town,
so they hopped a train northbound for the bright city lights,
they arrived there in the dark of night,
only to realize that runin' 'way was only half the fight,
And it's a cold ride from that Pennsylvania station,
where they tried to leave all their troubles behind,
but they didn't know the pain they felt was something that they just couldn't hide,
And it's a dark night in the hallow searching for a light they couldn't find,
and nobody knows that they even exist,so why bother saying goodbye,
They tried to get away, but all them memories came flooding back,
like the waters of the great Ohio,
Them sisters they don't need no one's sympathy,
only a stranger's arms and a fifth of black whiskey,
Their daddy's dead and their mama lacks all empathy,
the tragedies and loss left them wondering where to go,
And it's a hard road to travel when you don't know wrong from right,
and it gets harder still when you come to see you've been doing wrong all your life,
Them sisters they're like wildflowers growing in the hallow where the sun never shines,
they left the countryside, they left the coal mines,
but they'll never loose the strength they found inside,
And it's a bright moon a shinin' over the hills tonight,
and if you're ever in the hallow you'll hear the sounds of their childhood,
Them sisters they're still singing,
their voices rising up through the woods,
someday they'll stop runnin',together they'll come home,
'till then the hallow's sleepin',dreamin' of joy it has known,
'cause there's no telling when they'll be back here again,
they're too wild and free to be caged,
but their hearts hold so much love for the valley and what's abouve,
though the sky looks smaller and the trees have aged,
you know them hills still call their names,
And it's a sad story of the sisters and their strife,
Though to them it's a journey to prove there's more to this life,
well they never thought they'd get this far,
they never dreamed there was a life to live beyond the hollows door,
And it ain't over ' till they find the love they long for,
But it's always been in each other,
They don't need nothing more
