Puppy Love
We came together at such a young age
A puppy love I suppose I would call it
Not knowing what they call it these days
When I am so much older
And yet within that puppy love there is only
One important word
Love
It was a true love
Hot as a fire out of control to begin
As most loves are
And then with embers tamped down and yet
Still capable of blazing at any time
Did we just grow older and away from
The heat of our love
Or did the fire just blaze for the last time
And then die
From our inability to understand
The work and tears that must go into a relationship
To keep it alive
A natural ending of a love called
Puppy
A puppy love I suppose I would call it
Not knowing what they call it these days
When I am so much older
And yet within that puppy love there is only
One important word
Love
It was a true love
Hot as a fire out of control to begin
As most loves are
And then with embers tamped down and yet
Still capable of blazing at any time
Did we just grow older and away from
The heat of our love
Or did the fire just blaze for the last time
And then die
From our inability to understand
The work and tears that must go into a relationship
To keep it alive
A natural ending of a love called
Puppy
