Rock of Words
I have starved you
turned my back on dreams
embraced the darkness
of knowing that when I die
eternity bleeds its stream of silence
where you alone
might endure the force of forever--
my bravest rock of words
worn smooth by time
fused from voices immortal
unyielding
unshaken
unbowed
Why then
when I sit
drained of light and love
numb and wearied
by the lies of a weeping world
do these unborn wraiths
still rise
to rush past my eyes
and scream?
