For My Deceased Brother
You were my brother-in-arms
I made sure no one did you any harm
I wasn't by your side when you were ill
My world ended and these wounds never heal
When you passed, I felt so empty inside
Tried to stay strong but the tears were hard to hide
You fought like a warrior but the illness won
A part of me feels that more could have been done
You never let your disability hold you down
You are an inspiration that never leaves a frown
I love you and no one can ever fill your place
The memories come and go but I still remember your face
Don't need photographs to remember your crazy ass
Just can't believe so much time has passed
It was like yesterday but I know it's not true
A celebration in your honor is long overdue
My brother, you are the only one
Some days I can't see the light, knowing what is to come
I feel your presence when things are going terribly wrong
If you were here, I would have a shoulder to lean on
Mom hasn't been the same, she mourns you to tears
She is declining so rapidly, I have my fears
We all miss you, wish you were here with us right now
To brighten up our days with your cooky smile
Make us laugh, make us feel whole again
You are my brother, through thick and thin
I'll see you soon, wait for me at the gates
Waited far too long to have another one of our debates
Til then, I'll see you on the other side
We'll all take that final ride
