Every Morning

When I wake up in the morning my body
yearns for your warmth.
When I wake up in the morning
my breath is unsteady and my hands shake.
In my dreams,
I see you running through white roses
Your legs are red like the sunset blazing and bright
But you didn’t care you valued everyone else’s safety over your own.
In my dreams,
you were the kind of person who didn’t care
about your own life because you kept running anyway.
I see you in my dreams,
Your hair blustering in the wind like a beast finally being set free.
In my dreams,
your eyes were the color of earth kissed by spring rain.
Every morning I wake up.
My hands tremble as I reach to your side of the bed.
Every morning I wake up and I can’t remember why.
The sun doesn’t seem as bright.
The color look a little dull.
Every morning when I wake up you flood my thoughts
and for a second the colors are a little brighter
and the sun shines a little more saffron.
Then I remember it was you.
You were the one that held me together.
Like a puzzle you were the glue and I, I was the puzzle.
Without you I fell about.
The pieces of my life barely holding together,
clinging to the remanence of you.
Without you I had no reason to wake up every morning
but I did anyway.
 Without I realized that my life was not worth living
because the person I loved the most was not there anymore.
I realized you did not love me the way I did you.
That has to be one of the most heartbreaking thing.
To wake up and realize that the person you love the most
doesn’t care anymore.
You have come to find someone else’s birthday
is more important to memorize than mine.
And every morning I still wake up
and find the other side of the bed cold and empty.
