Keys are for Control
You told me
To hold on
To that fleeting
Feeling that we
Each shared.
You told me
How we would
Ruin each other
But who we were
Would come into
Focus
When our lips
Faintly brushed
And our eyes
Held shut
You were just
As afraid of
My gaze as
I was yours
You told me
Beauty was
Within the
Blemished
The harmed
The cut
The strangled
And I believed
You.
I told myself
You were for
The best
That you in
All your twisted
Ways and words
Had a deeper
Depth
That it all wasn't
Just hurt
And nails
And strings
And clenched
Fists.
You told me
The broken
Are the more
Evolved
The mental illness
Only unshackled
And sanity only
Confined.
So I let you
Hold me tight
And massage
The scabs off
My incisions
As you tell me
Locked doors
Preserve the
Sacred
But you tie a key
Around my neck
To hold on
To that fleeting
Feeling that we
Each shared.
You told me
How we would
Ruin each other
But who we were
Would come into
Focus
When our lips
Faintly brushed
And our eyes
Held shut
You were just
As afraid of
My gaze as

You told me
