The Fear In The Fade

"Outside, daylight was bleeding slowly toward dusk.”
― Stephen King

Ask yourself who wields the knife
while blood drains from sorrowful sky
the weight of earth turns ever darker
as purple fades to pale

tree tops burn as a last gasp candle
looming after luminance, twisted and ominous
bearing vigil with hoot and claw
a low sigh sifts from ghostly willow

white-moth and fire-fly twist amble bat
shrieks herd un-furl brave men to inside
light the torches stoke the fires
mist to moor comes crawling

hewn hills hide a cause-way to black
fields that glow gold sullen flat
I watch the green blades woe
unto night
asking myself who wields the knife
