Deception

A smile cascades across his face.
It comes to him as easy as a breeze on a hot summer day.
He seems content, just listening to me.

He'll make you feel like you're the only person in the world,
Then, once you think he's yours, he'll leave.

Deception plays at his eyes as he's whispering sweet nothings in your ear,
And even though his eyes are beautiful, you are focused on his lips.
He bites one,
A harsh ending to a fluid thought.

He brushes his thumb across your lip,
Making sure you swallowed the words he forced down your throat.

You did.

You swallowed them like a man dying of thirst.
It's what you craved.
It's what you needed.

You know they're poisoned.
Why did you swallow them?
You know they're going to kill you later.
You're not naive.

You shove him away as hard and as fast as you can.
Only to realize,
You were standing on ice.
You fall back,
And like a porcelain doll,
You shatter.
He stands over you and laughs. . .

What have I done?
