Recipe for Forever
Slice the apples for me, as only you can
so finely, with your delicate hands
although I know they were made
for such better and softer work
We have raisins and cinnamon
cloves and sweet brown sugar
all the ingredients we could ever need
are waiting here
But still we fight, to turn on that tap again
the one you keep so tightly shut
despite times I feel
solitary drips from its mouth
Yet I'm never sure
and your eyes just glaze over
allowing me nothing to cling to
not the faintest of hopes
that this desperate abandonment
alive in our kitchen
may be a temporary condition
And you wont say if it's
your recipe for forever.
