Psyche

 Rubberband ball
You've taken time to grow.
You took what you needed
Strand by strand,
Until you let it go.
All it took was one snap
Twenty layers down
And the bounce went lame.
It lost its purpose --
And was never the same.
Never again to leave
The ground
into another's arms.
A rubberband ball alone
without its charms.
